In 1948, Singapore’s Bukit Batok Hill Altura was the site of the first hill climbing contest in Singapore. The contest was a celebration of the country’s newly-gained independence and was a show of sportsmanship and strength of the nation.
At the time, the Bukit Batok Hill Altura was the largest hill in Singapore and was a challenging climb for even the most experienced athletes. The hill was a steep, winding road with a total elevation of approximately 150 metres. The contest was a test of endurance and determination, and the athletes had to work their way up the hill in the shortest time possible.
