Unveiling the Stations on Canberra MRT Station’s Line in 2018
In 2018, the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) government unveiled the stations that will be serviced by the new Canberra Metro Rail Transit (MRT) line. The MRT line is set to open in early 2021 and will span from the city centre to Tuggeranong in the south, with 16 stations along the 22km route. The new MRT line will provide an efficient, reliable, and convenient form of public transport for residents and visitors to the area.
The MRT line will begin at Dickson station, located in the inner north of the city, and run south through the suburbs of Belconnen and Woden, before reaching the city centre. Along the route, the MRT line will stop at 14 stations, including the new Canberra Metro Station. This station will be located at the corner of Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit, in the heart of the city, and will be the main interchange station for the MRT line. Other stations along the route include Mitchell, Reid, Braddon, Ainslie, Hackett, Lyneham, Watson, Bruce, Cook, Farrer, Mawson, Woden, and Tuggeranong.
In addition to the stations, the MRT line will also feature a number of features to make travelling easier for passengers. These features include real-time travel information, smart ticketing options, and Wi-Fi access. There will also be a dedicated bus service running alongside the MRT line, to provide an additional form of public transport for passengers.
The construction of the MRT line is set to begin in 2019, with the first services scheduled to run in 2021. The ACT government has announced that the MRT line will be fully operational by 2023. The ninth and final station on the line will be located at the Canberra International Airport, providing direct access to the airport.
